The ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter is a constant, this constant called π (Pi). It represents by the Greek letter π .
If C be the circumference and D be
the diameter of a circle, than π(Pi) = C/D
Value of π (Pi) is 3.141592653589793….…..
From ancient Babylonia to the middle ages in Europe to the present day
of supercomputers, mathematicians have been striving to calculate the
mysterious number.
Based on time span we can divide the history of π (Pi) by
BC: Before Christ & AD: Anno Domini (Booth are used in the Gregorian Calendar)
π (Pi) Bible: “Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits(A cubit is an ancient unit of length) from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about” .
This implies that Pi (π) = 30/10
Egyptian Mathematicians gives another ancient estimation for pi that is “Cut off 1/9 of diameter and construct a square upon the remainder; this has the same area as the circle”.
In other words, he implied that Pi (π) = 4(8/9)2 = 3.16049, which is also fairly accurate.
